Belt Management by Senpai John

When I first began taking martial arts classes I had no idea how to tie my belt and there was no internet to help. Today, there is. Let’s walk through the steps together. We’ll help you become more comfortable with the process of tying your belt. I’ll also throw in a few tips and tricks along the way.

You may prefer the how-to-tie guide you may have seen in your student handbook. Well, here it is.

Okay, hopefully between the video and the drawn highlights you were able to get your belt tied. The trick to getting a nice tight knot is to hold the tips of the belt firmly and pulse three or four times pretty hard and quick. After each pulse the belt gets tighter and then begins to relax. Before it has a chance to relax, you simply repeat the process and then you have tightened twice for the one relaxing. But don’t take my word for it, put it to the test.

Now, go to class. Clear your mind, listen and learn. When you’re done, come back here and watch this next video and I’ll show you how to put your belt away. And I’ll show you a little trick to help keep your newly learned knowledge from disappearing before your next lesson…. or maybe it just helps keep belt tidy.

… (one class passes) …

Welcome back. Let’s not just toss that belt in the trunk. You’ve worked hard and earned it. Just like you, it deserves respect.

Thank you for coming to visit my belt management tips. Were you able to get your belt tied for class? Let me know in the comments.
